About the role::

The General Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of financial transactions, reporting, and reconciliations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the general ledger, managing grants, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, prepayments, IFRS lease calculations, and loan revaluations. Additionally, the General Accountant ensures seamless month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing schedules, posting journal entries, and maintaining data integrity. Through collaboration with internal stakeholders, adherence to IFRS standards, and continuous process improvements, the General Accountant supports financial stability, compliance, and operational excellence

Core responsibilities

  • Grants Management: Maintain all grants records, communications and accounts along with standard reports and dashboards.

  • Intercompany Accounting: Process intercompany transactions and maintain schedules whilst collaborating with finance teams across business units.

  • Fixed Assets Management: Maintain and update Fixed Assets Register, perform asset capitalization, disposals and retirements and reports.

  • Month-End & Year- End Closing: Support the process and provide necessary accrual calculations and financial data as required.

  • Prepayments Management: Record all prepayments, monitor schedules to ensure timely amortization and maintain schedules.

  • IFRS Leases Schedule maintenance: Perform IFRS 16 Lease accounting calculations, recalculate loan balances, prepare month-end journal entries.

  • Cost Center & Project Structure Maintenance: Maintain cost centre and project structures and coordinate with system admin to resolve any discrepancies.

  • General Ledger Reconciliation: Ensure full reconciliation of GL accounts in TB, conduct regular reconciliations and collaborate with team members to ensure completion and compliance.

Qualifications, skills and experience :
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting.

  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, or ACCA are a plus

  • 6+ years working experience in finance operations experience in a large / complex organization.

  • Familiarity with financial reporting, grants management, intercompany transactions, and IFRS compliance.

  • Prior experience with reporting tools like Power BI and advanced Excel for financial analysis and dashboard reporting.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
